Responding to God’s Gifts

We’ve been talking about Gifts lately.

        Christmas Gifts

                Holiday Gifts to Each Other

Magi Gifts to the Holy Family

        Divine Gospel Gifts

Prophesy Embodied – God in Flesh

Divine Faithfulness – God’s Generous Legacy

        Ministry Partnership Gifts

                Embarking on our Journey Together

                Our New Secretary - Angela

Responding to God’s Gifts

Perhaps the first and most obvious response to God’s gifts is Gratitude

The Cycle of Grace & Gratitude

                Gratitude as an Intentional Discipline

                The Power of Gratitude

Perhaps more subtle would be maintaining a Confident/Expectant Perspective

Barry Sanders Effect – act like you’ve been here before & will be again

Recognizing God’s Faithfulness – He’s Always Been & Will Be Faithful

Sometimes like a Trickle from a Faucet, Sometimes Like a Fire Hydrant

Perhaps the hardest is remembering that God’s Love/Provision is Not Finite

Like the Love of a Parent for their Children – Ever Expanding Love

Love/Provision for Another Does Not Diminish What He Has For Us

Even if it was Finite, Jesus Example Models Putting Others First

The Implication of Gifts from an Infinitely Loving & Unfailingly Faithful Gift Giver

When God Gives to Others, We Lose Nothing

Like a Hose, not a Squirtgun

Celebrate because it means that God is still blessing people.

If you Struggle with this idea, Pray for God to Open Your Heart

This is part of the point of Martin Luther King Jr. & Civil Rights Movement

The Audacity of Asking for Equal Dignity & Opportunity

Part of every movement Respecting Humanity of any type

Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.

I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be.

This is the interrelated structure of reality.Martin Luther King, Jr.

This is the Scriptural Origins of Equal Rights Efforts

Galatians 3: 26-28

… for in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith.
As many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves
with Christ. There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free,
there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus.

 1 John 4: 9-21

… not that we loved God but that he loved us …  if we love one another, God lives in us, and his love is perfected in us …  There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear …  Those who say, “I love God,” & hate their brothers or sisters, are liars …  those who love God must love their brothers and sisters also.

I think we must conclude – Love is the Appropriate Response to God’s Gifts
